Laurence Kuhn
Laurence Kuhn established his facilities consulting business in early 2000 on a foundation of 25 years conceptualizing, planning, designing and developing a myriad of successful workspaces.
With rich experience working from his customers’ perspective—creating facilities for the companies in which he worked—Laurence refined a sense of those factors responsible for successful and durable environments. He balances the customer’s financial, schedule and resource concerns with the demands of the varying user groups, management and the facility elements. Laurence integrates flexibility and maintainability into his design solutions, whether simple or very creative and complex. Such attributes are often missed by designers who lack significant client-side experience.
A strong education in design, technology and business has complemented his work experience, providing a very successful approach to addressing and resolving most workspace demands. Laurence holds a BS in Industrial Technology with an Architectural Design Technology major from San Jose State University. This followed 3 years of study in creative design at UCSC, including computer graphics with Jim Clark (SGI, etc.). Mr. Kuhn received his MBA from Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business, also serving as MBA Student Association President.
Laurence’s design, planning and construction/project management has benefited such firms as IBM’s Almaden Research Center, Sun Microsystems, Watkins-Johnson and Intel, as well as dot.com start-ups. Projects sites span the nation, from the SF Bay Area to the former World Trade Center. Among some key positions:
Americas Project Manager for IA (Interior Architects – sixth largest architectural firm in the nation)
Director of Design & Project Management for BRG
Director of Design for kbm|Workspace
Recent work has involved consulting on the design teams for Intero Real Estate’s new main offices, bringing together work-style nuances, company branding, facility layout refinement and furniture responsiveness to client needs. Laurence also designed the Stanford lab for Max Mathews, the inventor of computer music, specifying product and integrating aesthetic with functional design criteria for a flexible and more effective facility. He also provides a wide variety of wonderful, cost-effective art solutions for his clients.
Laurence was the featured speaker on David Allen’s (author – Getting Things Done) “Best Practices, Bright People” national teleconference in August ‘99.
